Prof Christopher Liu

Christopher Liu attended La Salle Primary School and La Salle College.  After completing Form 3, he came to England to attend Prior Park College, a catholic boys school then run by Christian Brothers, an Irish order.  He has been President of the Prior Park Association (2005 – 2010), the old pupils association of Prior Park College.  He attended medical school in London and went through training posts in London and East Anglia before settling in Brighton and Hove in the mid-nineties. 
Christopher is Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon, Sussex Eye Hospital, and Honorary Clinical Senior Lecturer, Brighton and Sussex Medical School, England.  Appointed in 1996, he specializes in the anterior segment of the eye.  In addition to his clinical work, he is also Infection Control Lead for Ophthalmology, Research Lead for Ophthalmology, and Medical Advisory Committee Chair for the Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals NHS Trust.  He co-chairs the ophthalmology section of the Surrey and Sussex Comprehensive Local Research Network. 


He has been President of two national specialist societies, the Medical Contact Lens and Ocular Surface Association (MCLOSA) and the British Society for Refractive Surgery (BSRS).  He holds the Royal College of Ophthalmologists’ Certificate in Laser Refractive Surgery.  He is a council member of the United Kingdom and Ireland Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons (UKISCRS), and lectures widely both at home and abroad.He is Visiting Professor at the Kinki University Medical School, Osaka, and the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi.  He is a Visiting Senior Consultant at the Singapore National Eye Centre, and Visiting Consultant and the Aarhus University Eye Clinic.  He is a visiting fellow at the Aston University Biomaterials Research Unit.  He has an international reputation for artificial cornea and the most difficult cases of cataract surgery, and has contributed a number of book chapters to ophthalmology text books.  He has over 180 publications in the ophthalmic literature. 
Outside work, he is interested in music, haute cuisine, travelling, conservation and freemasonry.  He is married to Vivienne and they have three school-aged children.
